BETHLEHEM, Pa. — An 18-year-old driver and five underage passengers were caught intoxicated after state police clocked the vehicle traveling 109 mph on Route 378, according to authorities.

State police said Jack Campbell, of Wind Gap, was driving a 2015 black Honda Civic around 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, when radar detected the car going double the posted 55 mph speed limit.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop at Route 378 north and Route 22 east and reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Campbell was asked to perform field sobriety tests and take a breathalyzer test before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

According to police, all five passengers, each under the age of 21, were also found intoxicated. They admitted to drinking alcohol after attending Musikfest earlier in the evening.

12 DUIs Arrested During Roving Patrol
The following night, on Saturday, Aug. 9, PSP Troop M conducted a DUI roving patrol in Northampton County from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday, which resulted in:

  • 12 DUI arrests

  • 1 misdemeanor arrest

  • 2 arrests on outstanding warrants

  • 5 underage drinking arrests

  • 20 traffic citations

  • 41 traffic warnings issued

State police said the incident and patrol serve as a reminder of the dangers of impaired and reckless driving, especially involving underage alcohol consumption.
