An NYPD officer was found dead in his West Islip home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound while under federal investigation.
Homeland Security Investigations agents confronted the officer at Kennedy Airport on Monday night as he returned from Italy, notifying him of the probe.
He surrendered his four guns to the agents and was placed on modified duty by the NYPD.
By early the next morning, the officer was discovered dead at home.
Officials believe he used another gun he kept at the house to take his life.
No federal charges had been filed against him in the case.
Suffolk County police classified the death as a “non-criminal” investigation and declined further comment.
