A 63-year-old man says he was tied up and robbed Friday morning by an armed intruder posing as a police officer during a home invasion in Philadelphia’s Tacony neighborhood.
Police were called to the 6700 block of Marsden Street around 8:30 a.m. after reports of a break-in.
The victim told investigators the suspect wore a mask and a shirt marked “Police” when he forced his way inside. He said he was handcuffed, bound at the legs, and gagged with duct tape while the suspect demanded money.
After nearly two hours, the victim freed himself and called for help. The suspect had already fled with his wallet and keys.
Neighbors said the heavy police response was unusual for the quiet area.

“I’ve never seen that many cops out here. It’s usually peaceful,” said Cameron Edwards.

“I heard the sirens… peeked out, saw a bunch of cops, then stayed inside,” added Nyeemah Wright.
Police later spotted a 24-year-old suspect trying to escape in a white Jeep Cherokee. Chopper 6 footage showed him being taken into custody near the scene. Officers also recovered a weapon. The Jeep was parked just two houses away from the victim’s home.
Authorities said the victim was not seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not confirmed whether the suspect was officially impersonating an officer.
