PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged after allegedly shooting and killing his elderly mother in West Oak Lane, Philadelphia.
Police said Luke Bell was first arrested on Wednesday for a firearms violation. The following morning, officers responded to a home near Tulpehocken and Rodney streets, where they discovered 80-year-old Crystal Bell dead from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead shortly after 7 a.m.
Investigators have not confirmed the exact time of the shooting, but they reported that the gun recovered during Bell’s initial arrest matches the caliber of the weapon used in the killing.
Prosecutors have charged Bell with murder and other firearm-related offenses.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
