Elizabeth, NJ — A 25-year-old Middlesex County man has been sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison for the August 2023 shooting death of a 27-year-old Somerset County man in Elizabeth, authorities announced.
According to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Maurice Pierce, of Piscataway, NJ, appeared in Union County Superior Court on Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, where Judge Candido Rodriguez, Jr. handed down the sentence. Pierce was convicted of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Under the No Early Release Act, Pierce must serve 85% of his sentence — more than 21 years — before becoming eligible for parole.
The 2023 Shooting
The case stems from an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred in the early morning of Aug. 11, 2023, near the intersection of North Broad Street and Magnolia Avenue in Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth Police officers arrived at the scene, they found 27-year-old Jameer Outsey, of Bridgewater, NJ, unresponsive from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Prosecutor’s Statement
In a statement, Prosecutor Daniel praised the investigative team, including Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, Detective Sergeant Lewis King of the Kean University Police Department (assigned to the UCPO Homicide Task Force), and Elizabeth Police Detective John Londono.
“I hope this sentence can bring some relief to those mourning Mr. Outsey,” Daniel said.
Pierce will serve his time in New Jersey State Prison and will not be eligible for parole until he has completed most of his sentence.
