GARY, Ind. — A 35-year-old Portage man, identified as Andre D. Dew, was killed in a motor vehicle crash late Sunday night in Gary, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators were dispatched around 10:37 p.m. to the intersection of Melton Road and County Line Road, where Dew was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Medicolegal Death Investigation Team responded along with the Gary Police and Fire Departments.
An autopsy conducted Monday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point confirmed that Dew died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries. His death was officially ruled a motor vehicle accident and certified at 11:07 p.m.
Authorities have not released details about how many vehicles were involved or what caused the collision. The Gary Police Department is leading the investigation.
The crash occurred near the Portage border, an area that has seen increased traffic in recent months due to construction detours and seasonal travel. It remains unclear if road conditions or weather contributed to the accident.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the Gary Police Department.
