YONKERS, N.Y. — A 42-year-old man was fatally shot in Yonkers on Sunday night, Aug. 31, and police caught the suspect within 15 minutes, authorities announced Monday.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. at 27 Ludlow Street, where officers found Felix Santiago, 42, of Yonkers, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was rushed to a local hospital but did not survive, according to the Yonkers Police Department.
Quick Arrest Following the Shooting
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and a relative of the victim. As the suspect walked past Santiago, he allegedly fired three shots, striking him once.
Detectives immediately began investigating and used city security cameras to track the suspect. Within 15 minutes, officers arrested 26-year-old Linzell Staggers, also of Yonkers.
Charges and Evidence
Police recovered a 9mm handgun equipped with an extended 30-round magazine from Staggers at the time of his arrest.
He now faces the following felony charges:
