MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 32-year-old Somerset man was seriously injured early Sunday when a Honda SUV struck a disabled vehicle on Interstate 287, causing it to hit him, according to the New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded around 3:41 a.m. near milepost 34.5 in Morris Township, NJSP spokesman Charles Marchan said.
The incident began when Alejandro Quiles, 49, was driving a Toyota south on I-287 with Eddy A. Lenardo-Herrera, 32, as a passenger. The car veered off the roadway, hit an arrow board, then re-entered the lanes before becoming disabled.
Quiles and Herrera exited the vehicle and stayed nearby when a Honda SUV, driven by Laura Serrano, 23, of Nutley, struck the Toyota. The impact caused the Toyota to hit Herrera, leaving him seriously injured.
Serrano sustained minor injuries, while Quiles was unharmed.
The crash remains under investigation, and no further details have been released.
