An Iowa City woman accused of stabbing a pregnant woman has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Lacey Bode, 36, admitted guilt to assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. She was sentenced to 200 days in the Johnson County Jail but received credit for time already served between October 2024 and July 2025.
Bode was originally charged with four Class “D” felonies after allegedly stabbing a pregnant woman at The Haven bar in the early morning of Oct. 27, 2024.
According to criminal complaints, the pregnant woman tried to go behind the bar when Bode pulled out a knife and attempted to stab her multiple times. Another person intervened and suffered slashes and cuts. The pregnant woman sustained a small cut on her stomach, police said.
The Haven, located at 220 S. Van Buren Street, has a history of violent incidents, including a 2022 shooting when the venue operated as H-Bar.
Bode later admitted to police that she was present during the October altercation. Her case had been scheduled for trial in late August, but under her plea agreement, a no-contact order remains in effect through July 2030.
Bar Owner Convicted of Disorderly House
That same night, a brawl involving 20 to 30 people broke out at The Haven. Several officers were injured while trying to break it up.
Bar owner Adesola Miller, 32, was later charged with disorderly house, just two months after pleading guilty to the same charge for hosting a party of about 70 people. For the earlier case, she paid a $105 fine and $60 in court costs.
For the Oct. 27 incident, a judge again found Miller guilty of disorderly house and ordered her to pay a $500 fine plus $60 in court costs.
